The Executive Board of UWUA Local 470-1 would like to wish its brothers and sisters and their families a happy and safe Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. They gave their lives for their country, and never came home from war. They never saw their families again. May 14, 2012 Hearing

There is a Hearing/Protest scheduled for May 14, 2012, the purpose of this hearing is to garner support to shut down Bridgeport Harbor Station!! The hearing will take place at the Bridgeport City Hall Annex in downtown Bridgeport. You need to attend!

You need to attend for a number of reasons; first and foremost, these environmentalists are threatening your employment. You need to see for yourself what is going on out there. The company will have a presentation to explain the improvements that have been made at the plant, and the commitment of the employees; you need to know what they are doing on your behalf.

The hearing is presented by the CT DEEP; environmental groups have solicited support from community and church groups with false and inaccurate propaganda. They are there to oppose the renewal of the Title V permit for the operation of BHS.

There will be presentations given by the company and the environmentalists, a public comments portion, and a question and answer period. You will have the opportunity to speak if you so choose feel free. I have spoken with people in the area that did not know that we are Union workers. We need to get that message out to the public, let them know that there are people and families attached to this plant. And that we live, work, volunteer and worship in these communities.

I truly hope that we can have a substantial showing at this event. It will send a message to the environmentalists, the community, and to the company that we care about our jobs.
What is more important than protecting your livelihood? This is how we feed our families, what do you have to do that night that is more important than protecting that?
